2020 Code Update
Advanced In-Service Statement

Notice of Required Advanced In-Service Training for
Code Enforcement Officials and Building Safety Inspectors

In accordance with 19 NYCRR §1208-3.4, the recently adopted revisions of the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code (Uniform Code) and New York State Energy Conservation Construction Code (Energy Code) warrant the specific advanced in-service training described below.

In accordance with 19 NYCRR §1208-3.4, the following courses developed by the Department of State are deemed to be advanced in-service training courses:

• 2020 Advanced In-Service – Part 1 (Course #49-0125)
• 2020 Advanced In-Service – Part 2 (Course #49-0126)
• 2020 Advanced In-Service Exam (Course #49-0127)

The 2020 Advanced In-Service – Part 1 (Course #49-0125) shall be 2 hours in duration and shall provide 2 hours of training credit in Topic Area 1 (Code Enforcement and Administration).

The 2020 Advanced In-Service – Part 2 (Course #49-0126) shall be 2 hours in duration and shall provide 2 hours of training credit in Topic Area 2 (Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code).

The 2020 Advanced In-Service Exam (Course #49-0127) shall be an examination covering the topics covered in 2020 Advanced In-Service – Part 1 (Course #49-0125). The examination will be untimed. Successful completion of the examination shall be deemed to provide 1 hour of training credit in Topic Area 1 (Code Enforcement and Administration).

Building Safety Inspectors: In accordance with 19 NYCRR §1208-3.4, Building Safety Inspectors must successfully complete the following advanced-in-service training courses, totaling 3 hours of training, by December 31, 2020 to maintain certification:

• 2020 Advanced In-Service – Part 1 (Course #49-0125)
• 2020 Advanced In-Service Exam (Course #49-0127)

Building Safety Inspectors are required to complete a total of 6 hours of in-service training in calendar year 2020 to maintain certification. Timely completion of the required advanced in-service training described above shall count as 3 of the required 6 hours.

Code Enforcement Officials: In accordance with 19 NYCRR §1208-3.4, Code Enforcement Officials must successfully complete the following advanced in-service training courses, totaling 5 hours of training, by December 31, 2020 to maintain certification:

• 2020 Advanced In-Service – Part 1 (Course #49-0125)
• 2020 Advanced In-Service – Part 2 (Course #49-0126)
• 2020 Advanced In-Service Exam (Course #49-0127)

Code Enforcement Officials are required to complete a total of 24 hours of in-service training in calendar year 2020 to maintain certification. Timely completion of the required advanced in-service training described above shall count as 5 of the required 24 hours.
